Tresminas Gold Mines – Archaeological Site Visit
Tresminas was one of the largest gold mines of the Roman Empire, dating back to the reign of Emperor Augustus. Based on an “open sky” concept, the ancient extraction system used at Tresminas created impressive craters known as “cortas” and relied on a complex system of underground galleries for drainage and transportation.
A protected historical landmark, this impressive archaeological site will fascinate historians while providing breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Just a 45 minute drive from Vidago Palace, this morning excursion is lead by a knowledgeable guide and includes a gentle walk and mine visit, complete with helmet and lantern.

Here, guests can make their own piece – a unique and genuine souvenir of a trip to the Alto-Tâmega Region - and revive the almost-forgotten skills.
